Ziziphus jujubaMill. is a deciduous shrub or small tree that can reach a height of up to 10 meters. The branches are smooth and hairless, with paired needles, straight or hooked, and the young branches are slender and clustered, resembling feather like compound leaves. It forms a zigzag shape with twists and turns. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from August to September.
The drupe is ovate to oblong in shape, measuring 1.5 to 5 centimeters in length. When ripe, it is deep red in color, with sweet flesh and sharp pointed nuclei at both ends. The fruit is elliptical or spherical in shape, measuring 2-3.5cm in length and 1.5-2.5cm in diameter. The surface is dark red with a slight luster and irregular wrinkles. The base is concave with short fruit stalks. The outer skin is thin, the middle skin is brownish yellow or light brown, fleshy, soft, rich in sugar and oily. The fruit core is spindle shaped, with sharp ends and a hard texture. It has a slight fragrance and a sweet taste.
Enjoys light and a dry climate. Cold resistant, heat-resistant, and drought resistant. The soil requirements are not strict. Except for swamps and heavily alkaline soils, it can grow in plains, sandy areas, valleys, and mountains. The adaptability range to pH is between 5.5-8.5, with fertile slightly alkaline or neutral sandy loam soil being the best for growth. Developed root system and strong sprouting ability. Smoke resistant. Not resistant to water mist
